Leading the Way Towards Electrification

The transportation sector is responsible for 37% percent of all carbon emissions which equals 2 billion metric tons or 4 trillion pounds. When we think about electric vehicles, we are all thinking about changing our environment – to make the world a better place for ourselves, for our kids and for future generations. With electric vehicles, we are amid a revolution that’s not only going to change the fleet industry and how people use vehicles, but it’s also going to change our environment for the better. We are now a new Wheels with the combined expertise of three legacy companies positioned to lead the way towards electrification for our clients.
Introducing electrification to an internal combustion engine (ICE) fleet is about so much more than purchasing EVs. Beyond vehicle selection and acquisition, our customers rely on our ability to guide them through the entire EV lifecycle from a charging infrastructure and charging management to range monitoring and planning and driver training and engagement. Our expertise extends to all these areas. We’d like to share some numbers to illustrate the breadth of our experience.
We have 58,000 electric vehicles in our combined customer fleets including hybrids and plug ins – 11,600 of which are BEVs. To help clients decide which drivers and areas are best suited for EVs, we’ve sent out tens of thousands of driver surveys resulting in the completion of over 2,000 home charger installations for our clients’ drivers. Currently we’re managing hundreds of EV pilots for our clients which range from a couple of EVs to clients who already have hundreds of EVs in their fleets. Our most aggressive clients who are really leaning into electrification already have over 50% of EVs in their fleets with one fleet at 75%. You can tell from these numbers; our team is deeply entrenched in the process of electrification.
One of our clients, UCB, has a fleet of about 880 vehicles. Through a phased approach, they have achieved an 86.2% green conversion rate. And we have been with them on their sustainability journey. By starting with hybrids and moving to BEVs and Plug-in Hybrids, they moved from 4 electric vehicles to 93 in two short years which is why they won our Sustainability Client of the Year at our EV Summit 2022. Reporting is an important aspect of fleet electrification, and we have the tools to show our clients their progress towards sustainability and fuel savings. For UCB, we’ve been able to show them their mid-year fuel savings of over $72K. Linda Ellis, Fleet Manager, NA at UCB, said, “the only electrification way forward is partnering with an FMC that has prepared for this industry groundswell and has an evolving infrastructure to support you as the customer. Wheels provided elements that were crucial to the success of our EV journey”.
Finally, we are not just relying on our own expertise, we are bringing in new partners and augmenting our platforms providing integration and automation to make things more efficient for our clients. Our teams and our people are thrilled and humbled to help our clients on their journeys which in combination will make a substantive impact on the 4 trillion pounds of carbon emissions from the transportation sector.
